After numerous her family members, including hiltys pregnant sister, perished in an aircraft tragedy, Megan Hlty is coming out.
A little float plane off the shore of Whidbey Island crashed into Puget Sound on Sunday afternoon.
On that plane were my dear sister Lauren, my brother-in-law Ross, and my infant nephew Remy,” Hilty, 41, wrote on Instagram on September 7.
“My sister was eight months pregnant, and we were planning to welcome newborn boy Luca into the world next month, making this news even more sad.”
The actress described the recent tragedy as the “worst of our life” in the lengthy social media message, adding, “There are truly no words to adequately explain the depth of our grief. I didn’t want to publicly address this sad family tragedy, but I’ve noticed that a few media sites have misidentified my adorable nephew and some haven’t even brought up newborn Luca.
My niece, whom we are all keeping in our hearts, was left behind by Lauren and Ross, Hilty continued. Thankfully, she did not board the aircraft, and as she is a juvenile, we request that her identity and other details remain hidden.
In order to properly remember everyone we have lost and the loved ones they left behind, it is crucial that these facts be corrected. To our entire family, the outpouring of love and support has meant the world. Knowing how genuinely loved Lauren, Ross, Remy, and Luca are has been really reassuring.
A floatplane crashed into the Puget Sound in Washington on September 4 killing several passengers, including the Smash alum’s sister Lauren Hilty, brother-in-law Ross Mickel, and nephew Remy. NBC affiliate KING 5 reports that the plane, which was flying from the popular tourist site Friday Harbor to Renton Municipal Airport, crashed 30 miles outside of Seattle’s city limits. Along with the pilot, six of the total nine people on board died.
The Tony nominee did not immediately respond to the tragedy, but Lauren and Mickel were expecting a son, according to a statement released on their behalf. “Our loss of our dear Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, Remy, and their unborn baby boy, Luca, has left us tremendously grieved and beyond distraught. The family of Megan went on to express gratitude to the emergency responders who attended the scene of the collision, including US Coast Guard officials, as well as “the unofficial volunteers that helped with the crash’s search and rescue operations.”

Before Megan spoke out about her family’s tragedy, friends and coworkers at the Washington State Wine Commission recalled Lauren, Mickel, and Remy. For more than 20 years, Mickel, a renowned winemaker, owned Ross Andrew Wineries.
The commission said in a statement, “We are very saddened by the news concerning Ross Mickel and his family. Ross had a significant influence on the Washington wine industry, and he will be sorely missed. Our sympathies are with his family as they endure this incredibly trying time.
